Technical Notes in EasyTaskLink Installation
This document describes the basic architecture and interfaces of EasyTaskLink to other components of your PC. EasyTaskLink installation has two components: the Database Component and EasyTaskLink Program Component. Since the Database Component is provided by Microsoft, we must ensure that the Microsoft Component is installed properly before you can proceed to install EasyTaskLink.
EasyTaskLink works with MSDE or SQL Express 2005. MSDE can be found in the Microsoft site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324998. We included a copy of MSDE in the release CD.
SQL Express 2005 is available from http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/bb410791.aspx website.
There are two steps in installing EasyTaskLink.
Install MSDE or SQL Express 2005. (This is the Database Component).
Install EasyTaskLink Program Component.
Sometimes you may receive an The instance name specified is invalid message during installation of MSDE or SQL Express 2005. This means that you have installed EasyTaskLink Database Component once already. When this happens, do not install MSDE or SQL Express anymore. Just go ahead install the EasyTaskLink Program Component.
When you install into a system with both SQL Express and MSDE installed, you have the option to create EasyTaskLink Database Component on either one of it. There is no real benefit to choose one over the other.
Remember to reboot after you have installed or uninstalled EasyTaskLink. Our installer needs to write some entries into the system. Only a reboot will take effect. After you have uninstalled EasyTaskLink, you must also reboot to allow the system to clean up the remaining registry settings and File Services.
